Youth, unisex, women's and men's mean four different things to four different makers. What the words mean and where they disagree.

Unisex is a cut, not a compromise
Makers draft unisex sizing from a men's block: straighter through the body, wider at the shoulder, longer in the sleeve. It fits most people and flatters nobody in particular, which is exactly why this category defaults to it.
If the shirt is a gift and you do not know the size, unisex in one size up is the safest guess in the list.
Youth sizing moves fastest
Makers cut youth sizes to age, and age is the least reliable measurement a child has. A nine-year-old keeper wears anything from a youth small to an adult small depending on the season.
Where the maker gives age ranges we keep them as printed. Where the maker gives only letters, we leave the row blank instead of converting them ourselves.
What we cannot tell you
We hold none of these shirts and we measure nothing. Every figure on a product page belongs to the maker, and makers disagree: two shirts both marked large differ by two inches across the chest.
The retail partner shows the maker's size chart at checkout, and that chart beats anything on this page.
